Ultrafiltration (UF) Plant

Membrane filtration for fine particles, bacteria and turbidity

About this plant

Overview

An Ultrafiltration (UF) Plant uses hollow-fibre membranes with very fine pores to remove suspended solids, bacteria and many viruses. It gives consistent, clear water and is often used as pre-treatment for RO or as a standalone purifier where dissolved salts are not a concern.

How it works

Water is pushed through hollow-fibre membranes. Particles, colloids and microorganisms larger than the pores are held back, while water and dissolved salts pass through. The membranes are cleaned regularly by backwashing and, periodically, chemical cleaning.

Why choose it

Key Features

Fine Filtration Removes bacteria, turbidity and colloids.
Consistent Output Quality does not swing with feed variations.
Chemical-Free Operation Physical separation.
Compact Footprint Hollow-fibre modules save space.
RO Pre-Treatment Extends the life of RO membranes.

Step by step

Treatment Process

  1. Screening Strainers remove larger particles to protect the membranes.
  2. Ultrafiltration Hollow-fibre membranes hold back suspended solids, bacteria and colloids.
  3. Filtrate storage Clear permeate is stored or sent on to RO or supply.
  4. Backwash and cleaning Automatic backwashes and periodic chemical cleaning restore membrane performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is UF different from RO?

UF removes particles and microbes but lets dissolved salts pass. RO also removes dissolved salts. UF is often used ahead of RO.

Does UF remove bacteria?

Yes, UF membranes hold back bacteria and many viruses. For drinking water, final disinfection is still recommended.

How long do UF membranes last?

With good feed water and regular cleaning they typically last for years. Actual life depends on your water and operation.
